Support

Answers to the questions we get most. Something else? Write to info@heliopeak.app and mention your Apple TV model and tvOS version (Settings → General → About).

Requirements: Apple TV 4K (2021 or later) with tvOS 27 or newer. The Apple TV HD (2015) and the first Apple TV 4K (2017) cannot install tvOS 27 and are not supported. An internet connection is needed to update the forecast.

Locations

The proposed location is wrong. Apple TV has no GPS; the first suggestion is based on your network connection and can be off, especially on wired Ethernet or with a VPN. Simply search for your town instead. You can change the location at any time under Locations.

I cannot add a second location. The free version includes one location; HelioPeak Weather Plus allows up to five. Reorder them with the Move up / Move down buttons; the first favourite is the one shown on the Top Shelf.

Forecast and weather warnings

How fresh is the data? The forecast is refreshed every 15 minutes while the app is open and on every launch. If the app cannot reach Apple Weather, it keeps showing the last forecast with an "Updated … ago" note and retries automatically.

I do not see weather warnings. Warnings are shown where Apple Weather provides them for your location and when the switch in Settings is on. Coverage differs per country.

No minute-by-minute rain. Next-hour precipitation appears automatically in regions where Apple Weather offers it (currently the UK, Ireland, the US, Australia and Japan). Everywhere else the app shows rain chance and amount per hour.

Dashboard

Which cities does the dashboard show? The first three in your Locations list, one under the other. The first one is what the dashboard is about: it decides the photograph, the sunrise and sunset times and the 24-hour rain strip. Each city also shows its own local time when that differs from your television's. To change which city your dashboard is about, move it to the top of Locations with the Move up button. The Top Shelf follows the same order, so the two always agree. The free version has one location, so the three-city view is part of HelioPeak Weather Plus.

The dashboard shows a different city than the Weather tab. That is deliberate. The Weather tab follows whatever you selected; the dashboard and the Top Shelf both follow the order of your Locations list, so a screen you leave running does not change under you because you looked something up.

The clock moves, the screen dims, the dashboard stops. This is deliberate, and it reduces the risk of image retention: elements drift a few pixels every few minutes, the picture dims after 30 minutes without remote input, a darker night presentation starts after sunset, and the dashboard ends after two hours by default. Change the duration (1, 2, 4 or 8 hours, or never: with never, the pixel shift, the dimming and the night presentation all keep working; only the automatic stop is off) and the photo interval (2, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes, or not at all) under Settings → Dashboard. Any press on the remote restores full brightness.

Liability. HelioPeak Weather is built with care and the measures above are always on. Even so, how a screen ages depends on the television. SVDT Consultancy bv accepts no liability for damage to your television or Apple TV. By using this application you release the developer from any liability arising from its use.

My TV went to sleep while the dashboard was running. While the dashboard is on screen the app asks the Apple TV not to sleep, so the Apple TV's own Sleep After setting (Settings → General → Sleep After) does not cut it short. That setting still applies on the app's other screens. Switching the television off is different: if your television and Apple TV are set to switch on and off together, the Apple TV goes into standby with the television and you come back to the Home Screen. Open the app again to carry on.

Photos and effects. Rotating photographs and the cloud, rain and snow effects are part of HelioPeak Weather Plus. The effects are off by default (the photograph is what the photo dashboard is for) and can be switched on under Settings → Dashboard → Motion over photos. They also stay off automatically when Reduce Motion is enabled on the Apple TV.

Top Shelf

Place HelioPeak Weather in the top row of your Home Screen and highlight it: the Top Shelf shows the weather for your first favourite as the app last drew it. tvOS decides how often it refreshes, so it can lag behind the app by a while. Top Shelf content is part of Plus; without Plus a static image is shown.

HelioPeak Weather Plus

What is included? The 7-day forecast with hourly detail, up to five locations, the photo dashboard with weather effects and Top Shelf. Free trial of seven days, then €9.99 per year (local prices may vary). Family Sharing is supported.

Restore a purchase. Open Settings → HelioPeak Weather Plus → Restore Purchases. Make sure the Apple TV is signed in with the same Apple Account that made the purchase, or with a member of the same Family Sharing group.

Cancel or manage. On the Apple TV: Settings → Users and Accounts → your account → Subscriptions. On an iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. After cancelling, Plus stays active until the end of the paid period.

Refunds are handled by Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com.

Languages and units

The app follows the language of your Apple TV (English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish or Italian) and can be overridden under Settings → Language. Units follow one choice: match the television, metric or imperial. Metric shows °C, km/h, mm and hPa; imperial shows °F, mph, inches and inHg. The Beaufort force is shown alongside the wind speed in both.

Data source and attribution
