Frequently asked questions

Any Apple TV 4K from 2021 or later running tvOS 27. The Apple TV HD (2015) and the first Apple TV 4K (2017) cannot install tvOS 27 and are not supported.
From Apple Weather, the same service that powers the Weather app on iPhone. Your chosen locations are sent to Apple to fetch the forecast, and what you type when searching for a city is sent to Apple to suggest matches. The app also sends anonymous usage statistics and crash diagnostics, both processed in the EU. What they contain, and what they never contain, is set out in the privacy policy.
Not in this version. You get rain chance and amount per hour for every location. Next-hour precipitation is shown automatically in the regions where Apple Weather offers it (currently the UK, Ireland, the US, Australia and Japan).
To reduce the risk of image retention on your television. The clock and text drift a few pixels every few minutes, the screen dims after 30 minutes without remote input, a darker night presentation kicks in after sunset, and the dashboard stops after two hours by default (adjustable from one to eight hours, or never, in Settings). Any press on the remote wakes it up again. How a screen ages still depends on the television; see the disclaimer in the app under About us.
All background photographs ship inside the app: no photograph is fetched from a server while the dashboard is running, and the photographs keep working without a network connection. They come from Unsplash and are used under the Unsplash License, which allows commercial use without permission or attribution. We credit every photographer by name anyway, on the About us tab of the app.
In the language your Apple TV is set to, where the issuing agency publishes one. The Belgian RMI, for example, writes in Dutch, French, German and English. The text is shown exactly as the agency wrote it, with its full name and a link to Apple’s own alert page. We never translate or shorten a warning: a severe-weather message is not ours to reword. One consequence worth knowing: if you set the app’s language to something other than your Apple TV’s, the interface follows your choice and the warning text follows the Apple TV.
No. There is nothing to sign up for. The optional Plus subscription is handled entirely by the App Store.
On your Apple TV: Settings → Users and Accounts → your account → Subscriptions. Or on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. You keep Plus until the end of the paid period.
Three things have to be true. You need HelioPeak Weather Plus; the app has to sit in the top row of your Home Screen, which you arrange yourself by holding Select on the icon and dragging it up; and the app has to be the highlighted one in that row, because tvOS only shows the Top Shelf of the app you are standing on. When all three are true, the shelf above the row shows the current weather for your first favourite location, over a photograph from the dashboard’s library that changes from day to day (unless you have switched the photo dashboard off in Settings): the temperature and condition, today’s high and low, and a line saying whether the next twelve hours stay dry, or how likely rain is if they do not. It is redrawn when the app starts after being closed, and whenever it updates the forecast for your first favourite while that city is the one selected on the Weather tab, and tvOS decides when to display it: an app cannot force a refresh. Move the app out of the top row and the shelf disappears until you move it back.
Same developer, same values. HelioPeak tracks your solar production on iPhone, iPad and Mac; HelioPeak Weather brings the weather to your TV, including a sun outlook that solar owners will appreciate. Both work perfectly on their own.
